Singapore is considered a island city-state, and is just off the Malay Peninsula. Singapore is the smallest nation in Southeast Asia. Its population is just over 5 million people. Tourism is the largest industry in Singapore. It is projected to hit 15 million tourists soon to visit Singapore. The medical industry in Singapore is a very popular thing for tourist there. Singapore medical services are trying to be able to serve one million tourists a year by the year 2012. That will be a 3 billion dollar revenue for that country.
Another thing that Singapore has done is making gambling legal, and putting up casinos in the two Integrated Resorts (IR). This is becoming another large revenue for this country. The Internet providers, and cell phone providers of Singapore have worked together to make the whole downtown area a WiFi spot. That way anyone in the downtown area can have Internet access. It's very popular with the tourists as well as the natives there.
There are many great things to do in Singapore. Depending how you want to spend your time will determine what you will want to do and see. One of the most popular tourist spots in Singapore is the Orchard Road. It is a long road that is known for their shops and hotels. You can buy almost anything there. They have designer purses, clothes, shoes, jewelery, perfumes, colognes, and many other things.
Another very popular spot to visit while you're in Singapore would be the zoo. It is an amazing zoo that is considered an open air zoo, meaning that the animals pretty much go free throughout the zoo. The primates actually swing from trees above you while you walk around. The zoo uses dry and wet moats to separate a lot of the animals from the people there, the moats are either under your line of vision or covered by vegetation. This makes the effect of actually no barrier at all. Other more dangerous animals like jaguars, and tigers are in very large enclosures behind protective glass. You can definitely see that the animals are very well taken care of and very happy looking animals. They offer special events and activities like eating breakfast with the Orang Utans, this is a very popular aspect of the zoo.
Another nice place to visit while you are there is the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It is open between the hours of 5am and midnight, and is a very peaceful place to visit. It has over 1,000 orchid species, and an additional 2,000 hybrid orchids. There are amazing animals and a lot of wonderful art everywhere, this is a place you could spend hours and still not see everything that it has to offer. This botanical garden is truly spectacular, and has been around for a very long time. The garden where it is now was founded in 1859 and through out the many years has grown and matured into a wonderful place to visit.
Another place to visit while you are there if you are a electronics person would be Funan Digitalife Mall and Sim Lim Square. These places offer electronics at the fore front of today's technology at a very reasonable price. You can find anything from handycams, portable DVD players, cell phones, cameras, MP3 players, laptops, and much, much more. And if you know how to haggle you can get the prices down a little bit more usually. They also offer discounts if you are willing to pay cash for items.
The final place I suggest that people come to visit while in Singapore is the Geylang district. It is Singapore's red light district. Here you can see many different things, like the architecture, the many different street walkers, and the best food you will find in Singapore. You can find many different styles of cooking, from Indian, Malay, Peranakan, not to mention Asian. There are so many places where you can find ethnic foods that have been driving the country since it's beginnings.
There are many other places that you can visit depending on your tastes, and what you want to get out of the trip. Another good way if you want to plan your stops before you go would be to look up other great places on the Internet. If you want to do it spur of the moment you can get directories at the airport after you get off your plane. Another good idea is to see if there are any packages that you can get at your travel agencies. Sometimes they offer discounts if you get everything through them. The only thing with that is you would have to usually follow someone elses schedule, and miss out on something that you wanted to see.
